Whew, Bennett. Razor's boyfriend. The guy the official Genshin Impact TikTok account once posted an edit of to the song "Boys Will Be Bugs" by Cavetown, giving him a stronger transmasc aura than ever. He's like Jesus if Jesus wasn't put on the cross but was instead tortured daily by the unknown forces of the universe and only given breaks for one day every four years. Nobody calls him Ben.
Naturally I've made up a few headcanons about this guy too.
- Has dreams about dying all the time, which get pretty graphic. Whoever claims you can't feel pain in dreams is lying
- He is very unbothered by the idea of dying, and frequently forgets that other people are, which can make conversations with him very awkward.
- He always smells like septic cream
- I like to think he's multilingual. Like it's implied that Teyvat has an international language but I think Bennett's also learned some other local languages while healing from injuries and such, and from his dads who you can't convince me aren't from a bunch of different places.
- Chronic Little Brother Syndrome. Anyone over the age of 23 immediately views him as a little brother and acts accordingly.
- Back when Bennett was in a team with Jack, Heckler and Royce, he was very isolated. They'd disinclude him from conversations, looking down on him as someone far younger and less experienced* than them. Every time he tried to join in their conversation, they'd brush him off and ignore him. While he pretended at the time that it didn't bother him, he frequently cried himself to sleep during that period because he knew they didn't like him despite him being their team leader.
- *Due to Bennett's bad luck, he's experienced way more disasters and bad situations than any typical adventurer would even hear about in their lifetime, and alongside the fact he's been an adventurer since he was a child, he counts as a veteran. (I could've sworn this was canon, but I can't find where I got that from. Whoops.)
- He's never experienced New Year's before, because every time he tries to stay up, he manages to fall asleep before the clock strikes midnight, waking up a couple minutes after.
- He's a smoker. I saw this animation once and it convinced me. His life fucking sucks he's gotta be addicted to something at this point.
- He shares secret smoking spots with Rosaria and they're sort-of friends because of it. She keeps encouraging him to quit, though.
Modern AU
In this AU, Bennett is Eula's adopted son/blood nephew -- when she ran away from home, she took him with her, worrying that he'd be subject to abuse from her family if he remained there, due to the circumstances he was born under. Now, they live fairly quietly, though occasionally their family crops up to try and kidnap him back.
Instead of mystifying bad luck, Bennett has a shitty immune system that puts him in hospital quite frequently:
- He stopped having to do P.E. with borrowed kits after he got a chest infection three times in a row from it, causing him to slip into a week long coma and nearly killing him.
- Barbara once took him to her Sunday School Bible Study Club and ever since she did he comes down with an inexplicable fever every month and a half which Bennett refers to as Catholic Guilt; attributing it to him witnessing a particularly uncatholic encounter he saw Barbara have with one of her classmates
- Whenever he gets ill it's panic inducing because 1. it takes him out hard and 2. it gives Eula's family an open window to come and try and take him back. It'd also be a financial nightmare if the fictional country they lived in didn't have socialised healthcare, which they do.
